November: The Repair Month
By Eva · Published 1 November 2026 · Updated 1 November 2026 · 4 min read

November is my maintenance month. The light is poor, the ground is cold, and the honest thing to do is put the camera down for a while and repair what a summer of bare walking did to the skin.
A four-week calendar
Week one: soak and file, gently, twice. Week two: rich balm every night under cotton socks. Week three: reintroduce polish on a rested nail. Week four: photograph the result.
Filing dry skin works better than filing wet skin — wet skin tears. Soak to soften, dry fully, then file lightly along the heel edge rather than across it.
Nails need a month off
Three weeks bare, with oil at the cuticle every evening, is what turns a dull nail plate into one that reflects light. Colour photographs better on a healthy nail than on a smoothed-over damaged one.
If you must publish colour this month, choose a deep, forgiving shade — burgundy, plum, ink — which hides ridge lines that a pale nude would show.
Shooting a repair month honestly
Care images are content. A balm jar, a warm towel, a foot resting on a folded blanket — these frames perform because they are calm, and calm is rare online.
Keep the light warm and low. A single lamp at forty-five degrees, with everything else off, makes a care frame look like a ritual rather than a chore.

Questions readers ask
- How long does it take to repair rough heels?
- Roughly three to four weeks of nightly balm under cotton socks, with light filing twice a week. There is no faster honest route.
- Should nails rest between polishes?
- Yes — around three weeks bare with cuticle oil restores the shine that makes colour photograph well.
- Can care photographs be as engaging as heel photographs?
- Often more so. A calm, warm ritual frame holds attention longer than another glossy shoe on a dark floor.
