April: Spring Pedicure and Fresh Colour
By Eva · Published 1 April 2027 · Updated 1 April 2027 · 4 min read

April is the month my feet go back on show, and the month colour matters again. Daylight is honest in a way candlelight never is, so a spring pedicure has to be genuinely good, not merely photogenic.
The spring pedicure
Soak, file the heel edge, push cuticles back gently, buff lightly, then two thin coats plus a top coat. Thin coats dry evenly and photograph without the ripples a thick coat leaves.
Shape matters more than colour in daylight: a slightly squared oval reads clean at every angle, while a sharp point looks aggressive up close.
Choosing colour for daylight
Soft coral, warm nude and pale rose all sit well against spring skin. Save the deep shades for indoor sessions — under open sky they turn heavy and read almost black.
Photograph the colour within two days of application. Even a perfect polish loses its highlight to micro-scratches by the end of the week.
The first sandal
A thin-strapped sandal divides the foot into shapes; place the strap shadow deliberately rather than letting it fall across the toes at random.
Shoot from just above ground level with the foot slightly turned out. That angle lengthens the foot and keeps the strap lines parallel to the frame edge.

Questions readers ask
- How soon after a pedicure should I photograph?
- Within forty-eight hours. The gloss highlight fades as micro-scratches build during the week.
- Which nail shape photographs best?
- A slightly squared oval. It reads clean from every angle, unlike a sharp point which looks harsh in close frames.
- Do dark colours work in spring daylight?
- Rarely. Under open sky deep shades collapse towards black; soft coral, nude and rose keep their character.
