September: Back to Heels and Sheer Nylon

Start light: 15 denier, smoke or nude. A heavier weave in early September looks like a costume; a sheer one looks like a decision. The skin still carries summer colour, and a light veil warms it rather than hiding it.

Photograph the moment of putting them on rather than the finished leg. The gesture — the fabric gathering at the arch, the hand smoothing the ankle — is where the whole month lives.

A closed pump hides the toes, so composition has to do more work. Frame the vamp line, the heel counter and the ankle in one diagonal; that shape carries elegance without a single visible toe.

If you photographed a lot of sandals in August, the contrast is your friend: post one closed-shoe frame next to a bare one and the month reads as a story rather than a series.

By mid-September the usable window narrows to late afternoon. Move the session to a window with a sheer curtain and shoot at f/2.8 with the foot roughly one metre from the glass.

Skin recovering from summer needs care rather than retouching: a rich cream at night for a week before a session does more than any smoothing slider.
